George de Mestral was a Swiss Engineer who invented the Velcro after observing a Burdock Burr which is a type of seed (See image below). What is the mode of dispersal of this seed?
By sticking to animals
The Burdock burr is dispersed by sticking to the fur of animals. It has tiny hooks that help it stick to cloth and fur just like the Velcro.
In fact Mistral got this idea after going on a walk with his dog. Upon returning home, he found that the burrs were sticking to his clothes and his dog because of the tiny hooks on the seed. This was the inspiration that created the Velcro
