Pituitary dwarfism is a rare condition caused by a deficit in pituitary growth hormone. It causes the person to be shorter in stature than considered normal, which is defined as an adult height of less than 4 feet 10. Pituitary gigantism is an even more rare condition caused by an excess in pituitary growth hormone which causes the person to be much taller than what is considered normal. Gigantism, like pituitary dwarfism, usually presents itself in childhood. Children with gigantism grow at a faster rate than other children their age, therefore having abnormally high placements on growth charts early in childhood.
