Terylene:-

  1. It is a synthetic polyester fabric.
  2. By the polymerizing of Ethylene glycol(C2H6O2)n and Terephthalic acid terylene(C8H6O4)n Terylene is produced.
  3. A wider variety of clothes are made by the use of Terylene
  4. It has a chemical formula of (C10H8O4)n:

Properties of Terylene:-

  1. Since it is a strong fibre, bleaching or dry cleaning agents have no effect on it.
  2. As it absorbs very little amount of water, it dries up quickly and can be washed easily as well.
  3. Terylene is resistant to friction because of its high tensile strength.
  4. Terylene is stable at high temperature .
  5. It is resistant to acid and bases due to its insolubility in most organic solvents.
  6. Terylene is a synthetic polyester fabric which in mixing with wool is known as terywool.

Uses of Terylene:-

  1. Terylene fibre is used as polyester tricot knit as a fashion garments fabric.
  2. They are used in making plastic bottles.
  3. It is also used to make hard wear clothes like dresses, toestry, fleece jackets and dress materials in various textile industries.
  4. For exhibition purposes, nonwoven needle-punched carpets are made with the help of Terylene.
  5. For the laundry purpose also Terylene is used as an automatic clothing vacuum packaging machine.
