Give a basic idea on logs and antilogs

Open in App
Solution

Logarithms are actually meant to simplify sovling expressions involving exponents.
A logarithm is simply an exponent that is written in a special way.
Let us take an expression 32=9
This is represented as log39=2 in logarithms. The subscript 3 is called the base of logarithm and 2 is exponent. In other words, logarithm of number is the base of logarithm raised to the exponent.
In this case, the base is 3 and the exponent is 2. We write this equation in logarithm form (with identical meaning) as follows: log39=2.
Logarithmic Function is defined as
f(x)=logbx
Domain of logarithmic function is all positive real numbers. It is not defined for 0 and negative numbers
If log M = x, then is called the antilogarithm of x and is written as M = antilog x
Log and antilog are used to solve large calculation without calculator.
