Question

Give a brief account of lightning conductors.

Open in App
Solution

Lightning conductor is a metal rod or wire fixed to an exposed part of a building or other tall structure to divert lightning harmlessly into the ground.

The lighting conductor provides a very low resistance path between the top of the lighting conductor rod via a substantial strip of metal to the ground so that the current as a result of a lighting strike does not flow through the building to which is attached.
