Open in App
Solution

The final phase of maturation during spermatogenesis is known as spermiogenesis. During this phase, the spermatids mature into the motile spermatozoa. The changes that occur during this phase are: The head forms at one end and the Golgi apparatus secretes enzymes at one end. The acrosomal granules also surround the nucleus to form the acrosomal cap. The DNA gets associated with basic proteins called protamines and the two centrioles move to a position behind the sperm nucleus, in the future tail region. The centrioles help in the formation of the tail of the sperm. The mitochondria get arranged around the distal centriole and form the neck region.
