Give a brief summary of the differences of elements , compounds and mixtures.
Elements are the simplest form of matter that cannot be further broken down or decomposed into a simpler form by any chemical method.
They are the simplest pure substances.
They have fixed and uniform composition.
They have definite properties.
Examples: Gold (Au) , Silver(Ag) etc.
A compound is a pure substance formed by the chemical combination of two or more two elements in a fixed proportion by mass.
Their composition is definite, constant, and uniformly throughout.
They have definite and fixed properties
Examples: Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) , Potassium chloride (KCl) etc
A mixture is a form of matter which consists of two or more different pure substances in any ratio. They are impure substances.
Their composition is variable.
They have no fixed properties.
Example: Sand , salt water etc.
