Chemical test to distinguish saturated and unsaturated compounds:

• Bromine water test is used to differentiate between the unsaturated compounds (like alkense and alkynes) and the saturated compounds.
• When bromine water is added to an unsaturated compound, the red-brown colour of bromine water is decolourised.
• When bromine water is added to saturated compound, the red-brown colour remains same. So, we can distinguish the saturated and unsaturated compounds.
