Question

Give a condition that three vectors a, b and c form the three sides of a triangle. What are the other possibilities?

Open in App
Solution

Let ABC be a triangle such that BC = a, AB = c and CA = b. Then,
a+b+c= BC+CA+AB
a+b+c = BA+AB [∵ BC+CA = BA]
a+b+c = BB [ Using triangle law]
a+b+c = 0 [ By definition of null vector]

Other possibilities are
i c+ a = b
ii a + b = c
iii b+ c = a
