There are a number of natural sources that cause air pollution.

  1. Volcanic eruptions: Volcanic eruptions release toxic gases, ash, and heat in enormous quantities which pollute the air.
  2. Electric storms and solar flares: They produce harmful chemicals in the atmosphere.
  3. Forest fires: They release harmful fumes and suspended particles in the air.
  4. Dust storms: Dust storms put dust particles in the air which pollutes the air.
  5. Decaying organic matter: It produces toxic ammonia gas which pollutes the air.
  6. Decay of vegetation matter: Decay of vegetation matter in marshy places and in coal mines produces marsh gas (methane) which is a natural air pollutant.
  7. Pollen grains, spores, cysts, and bacteria also add to the suspended particles in the air.
