Burning - When substances such as wood, and charcoal are heated in the presence of air, they catch fire. This process is called burning or combustion.

Burning of wood-

  • When wood is burning in the presence of air, it produces new substances together with heat and light.
  • Burning is a chemical change as new substance ash is formed which can not be converted back into the wood.
  • Therefore, the burning of wood is a chemical and irreversible change.
