Solution

A graphite anode is preffered to other inert electrode during electrolysis of fused lead bromide. Because,

  • An inert electrode is an electrode that does not participate in the reaction. their function is just to provide an interface for the reaction. For example Platinum, Gold, Graphite, and Rhodium rods.
  • Graphite is most preferred in the electrolysis of fused lead bromide because graphite remains unaffected by the reactive bromine vapors, which is released at the anode.
