Open in App
Solution

The proportion of poverty in different states of India is not the same. There are huge disparities in poverty among these.
The following are the facts which show this disparity:
  • The success rate in poverty eradication varies from state to state. Poverty is a serious problem yet in some of the northern states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, etc.
  • In 20 states and union territories, the poverty ratio is below the average national ratio. There is a significant decline in poverty in Kerala and Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Bihar and Odisha continue to be the two of the poorest states of India with 33.7% and 32.6$ respectively. This is because of illiteracy and social backwardness.
  • Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab have the lowest poverty rate of 3.5% and 6% respectively. This is because of the growth in the tourism industry and agriculture.
