Solution

  • Despite a largely unity in the general pattern, there are discernible regional differences in climatic conditions within the country.
  • In summer, the mercury sporadically touches 50°C in some parts of the Rajasthan desert, whereas it touches around 20°C in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • In winters, temperature at Drass in Jammu and Kashmir could be touching minus 45°C whereas Thiruvananthapuram may have a temperature of 20°C.
  • There are variations in the form, types of precipitation, amount, and the seasonal distribution.
  • While it mostly snows in the upper parts of Himalayas, the rest of the country receives rainfall.
  • The annual precipitation ranges from over 400 cm in Meghalaya to less than 10 cm in Ladakh and western Rajasthan.
  • Major part of the country receive rainfall from June to September. However, some parts like the Tamil Nadu coast get most of its rain during October and November.
