Question

Give an account on the length of sarcomere during muscle contraction.

Open in App
Solution

Sarcomere is the elementary unit of contraction in the muscles. During muscle contraction, the A-bands remains the same and the I-bands and the H-zone reduce in the size. Due to this, the Z lines come closer together. The light I bands disappear and the dark A bands come closer together. During muscle contraction, tropomyosin covers the myosin binding sites of the actin molecules in the muscle cell.
