A food chain is a sequence of organisms in which one organism eats another causing the transfer of matter and energy. E.g: grass is the primary producers that make their own food by photosynthesis. They are eaten by rabbits that are the primary consumers. Rabbits, in turn, are eaten by snakes that are the secondary consumers and vultures feed on snakes that are the tertiary consumers. A series of interconnected food chains form a food web. In a food web, several predators may feed on the same organism at any trophic level.
