Question

Give an example of a carbohydrate which exhibits lowest boiling point.

Open in App
Solution

Boiling point:-

  1. When the vapor pressure of a liquid is equal to the standard sea-level atmospheric pressure, then that particular temperature at which it happens is called the boiling point of a liquid.
  2. For example Glucose(C6H12O6), is a carbohydrate that has the lowest boiling point.
  3. We know that the degree of dissociation of glucose is less, that is its Van't Hoff factor is 1.
  4. This happens because glucose has the least number of solute particles in it.
  5. And we also know the fact that the more the number of solute particles present more will be the elevation in boiling point and less will be the boiling point.

Therefore, Glucose (C6H12O6) is an example of a carbohydrate that exhibits lowest boiling point
