Question

Give an example of a geometrical figure which has neither a line of symmetry nor a rotational symmetry.

Open in App
Solution

A scalene triangle neither has a line of symmetry nor a rotational symmetry.

Explanation:

Line of a symmetry:

The line of symmetry can be defined as the axis or imaginary line that passes through the center of the shape or object and divides it into identical halves.

lets take an equilateral triangle, which has 3 lines of symmetry.

Rotational symmetry:

A shape has Rotational Symmetry when it still looks the same after some rotation (of less than one full turn).

lets take an equilateral triangle,

Now, lets select a scalene triangle

If you try fold based any vertex we never get two exact halves.

if you try to rotate in any in direction in any any angle we never get the same shape except in complete rotation.
