Question

Give an example of a non-polar molecule?

Open in App
Solution

Non-polar molecule:

  • The molecule in which there exists no separation of charges between the molecule is called a non-polar molecule. So in these cases, no positive or negative poles are formed.
  • Nonpolar molecules are generally dissolved in nonpolar or mostly organic solvents.
  • In these molecules, the charge is symmetrically distributed across the molecule.
  • Examples are carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon tetrachloride (CCl4), oxygen ( O2), nitrogen (N2) etc.

Hence, an example of a non-polar molecule is carbon dioxide (CO2).
