Solution

Haloalkanes:-

  1. Hydrocarbons, where one or more hydrogen atoms are replaced with halogen atoms, are called Haloalkanes.
  2. Haloalkanes are also addressed as alkyl halides.
  3. Halogens are generally bound to sp3 hybridised carbon atoms, in these Haloalkanes.
  4. Due to the presence of halogens, the haloalkanes are more chemically reactive than their parent alkanes.
  5. Examples of a tertiary haloalkane are 2–Bromo–2–methyl pentane, 3–Chloro–3–methyl pentane.
  6. The structure of these haloalkanes are:

Therefore, 3–Chloro–3–methyl pentane is an example of a tertiary haloalkane.
