Acoelomate:
- Acoelomates are animals that do not possess a body cavity.
- Unlike coelomates, they do not have a fluid-filled cavity between the digestive tract and body wall.
- They are known to have a triploblastic body plan which means that their organs and tissues develop from three primary embryonic cell layers.
- The three embryonic cell layers through which a triploblastic body outgrows are endoderm, mesoderm, and ectoderm.
- Acoelomates lack developed organs.
Example of an acoelomate:
- An example of acoelomates is a flatworm.
- It belongs to the phylum Platyhelminthes.
- These are unsegmented and have bilateral symmetry.
