(i) Involuntary action:
Involuntary actions in the body are controlled by the involuntary peripheral nervous system, otherwise called the autonomic nervous system. These are not regulated by the will of an individual.
An example of involuntary action is the beating of the heart.
(ii) Voluntary action:
Voluntary actions in the body are controlled by the voluntary peripheral nervous system, otherwise called the somatic nervous system. These are under the conscious control of an individual.
An example of voluntary action is flexion and extension of the elbows.
