Solution

Polymerase chain reaction [PCR]:

  1. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a biotechnological technique for duplicating a DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) segment.
  2. PCR is a very accurate method for amplifying (or copying) a specific DNA target from a mix of DNA molecules.
  3. Denaturation, annealing, and extension are the three stages of a PCR process.

Example:

  1. The examination of tumors is an excellent example of PCR.
  2. PCR might be used to identify and amplify the DNA of tumor suppressor genes and proto-oncogenes.
