Solution
Tyndall effect:-
When the particles in a colloid scatter the beams of light directed at them, then this phenomenon is known as Tyndall.
All colloidal solutions and some very fine suspensions show this effect.
Thus to verify if a given solution is a colloid or not, we can use this technique.
The density of the colloidal particles, as well as the frequency of the incident light, are the dependency factors for the intensity of scattered light.
Examples of the Tyndall effect:-
When we switch on a torch in a foggy environment, the path of the light becomes visible. Here, for the scattering of the light, the water droplets present in the surrounding are responsible.
Milk is a colloid that has globules of fat and protein in it. The light gets scattered, when a beam of light is directed at a glass of milk.
