Ringing experiment is used to demonstrate that xylem is the path of ascent of sap in plants. In this a ring of tissue containing phloem is removed from the outer region of the stem leaving the xylem intact. Observation is that leaves did not wilt because xylem was left intact but the growth below the ring is reduced because of the absence of phloem which conducts food.
