Open in App
Solution

Collenchyma tissue:

  1. In plants, collenchyma is a tissue that supports live elongated cells with uneven cell walls.
  2. In cross-section, collenchyma cells have extensive layers of cellulose in their cell walls and appear polygonal.
  3. The thicker cell walls and longitudinal interconnecting of the cells give the tissue its strength.

Functions of collenchyma cells:

  1. When a food contains chloroplasts, collenchymatous cells absorb it.
  2. They are also known to provide mechanical aid to the plant's growth parts, such as the leaf petiole or young stem.
