Question

Give any four differences between photosynthesis and respiration.

Open in App
Solution

Respiration Photosynthesis
The process wherein food is broken down in the cells to release energy is known as respiration. The process wherein green plants prepare their own food in the presence of sunlight, chlorophyll, carbon dioxide and water is known as photosynthesis.
It involves the release of energy. It involves the use of light energy.
Respiration is the process wherein organisms take in oxygen from the atmosphere and release carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. During photosynthesis, plants take in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen to the atmosphere.

Equation for respiration:

C6H12O6 + 6O2 6H2O + 6CO2+ Energy

Equation for photosynthesis:

6CO2 + 6 H2O ChlorophyllSunlight C6H12O6 + 6O2

It is a catabolic process that involves catabolism of food to release energy.
It is an anabolic process that involves preparation of food using sunlight and simple molecules.
