Six features of human genome:
The important features of human genome are as follows:
1. It has 3.1647 million nucleotide base pairs.
2. Less than 2 percent of the genome codes for proteins while the rest of the genome is non coding.
3. It has approximately 30000 genes as compared to the previous estimate which was about 80,000 - 1,40,000 genes.
4. The average size of a gene is 3000 bp and dystrophin is the largest gene of about 2.4 million base pairs.
5. Out of all the human chromosomes, chromosome 1 has the most genes, that is, 2968 genes while chromosome Y has the least genes, that is, 231.
6. The genome of all human beings is 99.9
% similar with exactly the same nucleotides.
7. Only 0.1% of the genome shows variations.
8. A large proportion of the human genome is made up of repetitive sequences.
