Question

Give any two applications of Faraday's law of Induction in daily life.

Open in App
Solution

Faraday performed a series of experiments with a closed circuit and varying magnetic fields and observed that “induced emf in a circuit is proportional to the rate of change of magnetic flux linked with the circuit.”

Examples of Faraday's law:

  1. An application of Faraday's law is in an induction furnace, where a substance is heated by placing it in a rapidly changing magnetic field.
  2. A High-frequency magnetic field can be used in melting metals or extracting metals from ore.
  3. An induction furnace is also used in the kitchen, where food can be cooked by placing it in a region of intense alternating magnetic fields.
  4. Another application of Faraday's law is an induction motor, where a conducting cylinder is placed in a rotating magnetic field.
  5. This conducting cylinder starts rotating due to the eddy current induced in it.
