Microbes are widely used in the field of biotechnology for the production of primary and secondary metabolites. These have wide application in the field of agriculture, medicine and industrial production. The two microbes which have a major contribution in the field of biotechnology are E.coli and Lactobacillus. E.coli is generally used for protein production and genetic transformation. Lactobacillus is mainly used in food industry for the production of fermented foods and alcohol.
