Non-biodegradable wastes

  1. The waste that cannot be decomposed or degraded by the biological process is known as “Non-biodegradable wastes”.
  2. Most of them include the inorganic waste that is non-biodegradable.

Two ways in which non-biodegradable substances would affect the environment are

  1. Chemicals like Aldrin, BHC and DDT induce carcinoma (muscle cancer) and growth of tumors.
  2. Handling of waste materials may cause skin, respiratory and intestinal infections.
  3. Non-biodegradable substances do not decompose.
  4. They pile up and pollute the environment.
