Question

Give balanced equation for the action of heat on :

Aluminum hydroxide

Open in App
Solution

When Aluminium hydroxide is heated we get Aluminium oxide and water.

The equation can be written as-

Al(OH)3Al2O3+H2O

Balancing equation-

We can see here we have got an unequal number of atoms on the reactant and product parts.

AtomsReactantProduct
Al11
O34
H32
  • We multiply the Aluminium hydroxide molecule by 2.
  • We get extra hydrogen and oxygen on the product side, to balance this we multiply the water molecule by 3.
AtomsReactantProduct
Al22
O66
H66

Hence, the complete balanced equation is-

2Al(OH)3(s)AluminiumhydroxideAl2O3(s)Aluminiumoxide+3H2O(l)Water
