(ii) What is the effect of denaturation on the structure of proteins?
(iii) Name the nitrogen base residues present in DNA.

Solution

(i) The conversion of ethyl amine to methyl amine is shown by the following reaction.
(ii) Denaturation of proteins is irreversible change and causes precipitation, shape destruction and loss of characteristic biological activity. It can be brought out by heating protein with alcohol, concentrated inorganic acids or by salts of heavy metals.
For example, when egg is boiled, it coagulates egg white. Milk is converted to curd.
(iii) Nitrogen base residues present in DNA are:
(a) Adenine (b) Guanine
(c) Thymine (d) Cytosine
(e) 5-methoxy cytosine
