(i) Formaldehyde and Acetaldehyde
With freshly prepared sodium nitroprusside solution and excess of dil. $N a O H$ acetaldehyde produces a deep blue colour.
Formaldehyde does not give the above test.
(ii) Dimethyl ether and ethyl alcohol
Ethyl alcohol gives Iodoform test is, a pale yellow precipitate of iodoform is formed.
$C H_{3} C H_{2} O H e t h y l a l c o h o l + 4 I_{2} + 6 N a O H \to C H I_{3} i o d o f o r m + H C O O N a + 5 N a I + 5 H_{2} O$
Dimethyl ether does not give iodoform test.
