Question

Give definition and example of translational motion.

Open in App
Solution

Translational motion:

  1. There are various types of motions that a body can undergo in a period of time, like translational motion, rotational motion, periodic motion, and non-periodic motion.
  2. A motion in which all the points of a body moving uniformly in a single direction is called translational motion.
  3. When an object undergoes translational motion, there is no change in its orientation.
  4. In this motion, all the particles of the object move parallel to each other.
  5. There are two types of translational motion, namely, rectilinear motion and curvilinear motion. When the object moves in a straight line, it is a rectilinear motion, and when it moves along a curved path, it is a curvilinear motion.
