Solution

(i) Imbibition is a phenomenon of adsorption of water molecule or any liquid molecule by hydrophilic/ lycophilic substances on the cell. The adsorption of the water molecule makes the surface of the cell to swell. The importance of Imbibition is necessary to initiate seed germination. This is an important step in the initial stage of water absorption by roots.
(ii) Parturition is the act of expelling the full-term foetus from the mother's uterus at the end of gestation. This process is also known as the delivery of the foetus when the pregnancy period gets over. The importance of parturition is that the event results in the foetus to come out of the womb. The process is accompanied with the onset of lactation.
