Solution

Central Uplands is one of the three major land regions of Germany, and also are among the oldest mountains of Europe. Their present day appearance has developed recently (strictly in geographical evolutionary times). Various mountain ranges occur in central uplands and have developed over different times and geographic phenomena like tectonic plate collision, sedimentation and erosion. Variscan mountain ranges were formed by the upliftment due to the tectonic plate collision. There are various layers of sedimentary rocks and during the Jurrasic period, there was the formation of limestone while chalk was formed in the Cretaceous period. Alpidic mountain building occurred during Tertiary period due to the forces of this new formation the stumps of Hercynian mountains were deformed. These rocks were already folded rocks and hence the further forces of tension created cracks and fractures leading to the formation of fault blocks. The Central Uplands exhibit the widest range of forms. In some places, sedimentation has been well preserved whereas at some places it has been eroded.
