Assam is a northeastern Indian state which since many years has been suffering from insurgency activities. The state shares a porous border with Bangladesh and Bhutan. The main cause of tension is caused by anti-foreigner agitation in the 1980s and the ever-growing conflicts between Assam Bodo sections of the population.
