Give differences between the following:
Photosynthesis and Respiration
Photosynthesis:
Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants obtain their food with the help of carbon dioxide, water, light, and chlorophyll (a green color pigment in plants).
Respiration:
Respiration is the oxidation of glucose into energy (ATP) along with carbon dioxide and water as a byproduct.
Photosynthesis | Respiration |
1. Photosynthesis depends on sunlight. | 1. Respiration does not depend on sunlight. |
2. Chlorophyll (Green-coloured pigment found in the chloroplast of plant cells) is required for photosynthesis. | 2. Respiration do not require chlorophyll. |
3. End product is Oxygen. | 3. End products are ATP, Carbon dioxide and water. |
4. Photosynthesis results in weight gain and growth. | 4. Respiration results in weight loss. |
