Give equations to obtain nitric oxide from nitric acid.

  1. The formula of Nitric oxide is NO and Nitric acid is HNO3.
  2. In laboratories, the Nitric oxide(NO) is prepared by reduction of dilute Nitric acid (HNO3) with Copper metal (Cu).
  3. When dilute Nitric acid (HNO3) is added to Copper (Cu) it reacts to form Copper(II) nitrate (Cu(NO3)2), water and Nitric oxide (NO).
  4. The reaction is shown below.
