Solution

Colloidal solution - A colloid is a heterogeneous mixture in which the size of solute particles is intermediate between those in true solutions and t in suspensions. Example: - milk, ink, blood, soap solution, etc.,

Dispersed Phase - The phase which is scattered or present in the form of colloidal particles is called the dispersed phase.

Dispersion medium -The medium in which the colloidal particles are dispersed is called the dispersion medium.

  • The colloidal solution may be of different types according to the dispersed phase and dispersion medium.
  • A colloid known as an aerosol is formed by the solid as the dispersed phase and gas is the dispersion medium.
  • Example - Smoke, automobile exhaust, etc in which dust particles are dispersed phase and gas coming out in the form of smoke is the dispersion medium.
