Radicals

  1. A radical is an atom or a group of atoms having paired or unpaired electrons.
  2. Radicals can have positive, negative and neutral charges.
  3. They have high chemical reactivity, therefore they are often observed as intermediate.

Positive radicals

  1. When an electron is lost from an atom, the atoms acquire a positive charge and are called positive radicals or positive ions.
  2. Examples: Ferrous ion(Fe2+), Chromium ion(Cr3+), Aluminium ion(Al3+)
