(1) (a) In India, there is not much scope left today to increase the area under cultivation, because the area under forests cannot be reduced. (b) Unfavourable physical and climatic conditions have restricted addition to the area under cultivation. (c) Land under roads, railways, settlements and water bodies cannot be brought under cultivation. (d) Maximum possible area has already been brought under cultivation after independence.
(2) Conservation of Minerals is necessary because: (a) Minerals are formed by natural processes which takes many years. (b) Mineral resources are not only limited but also exhaustible. (c) There is a growing demand of minerals from both agricultural and industrial sectors. (d) They will get extinct and there will be nothing left for future generations.
