Question

Give one basic difference between generalized and specialized transduction.

Open in App
Solution

In generalized transduction, as the phage begins lytic cycle, viral enzymes hydrolyse the bacterial chromosome into many small pieces of DNA. Any part of the bacterial chromosome may be incorporated into the phage head during phage assembly. Whereas, in specialized transduction certain temperate phage strains transfer only a few restricted genes of the bacterial chromosome.
