Definition of isobar

When two atoms of different elements have the same mass number but a different atomic number are called isobars.

Example of isobar

  1. An example of isobar is: K1940 andC2040a.
  2. Here K1940represents an atom of potassium and C2040a represents an atom of calcium.
  3. In these two atoms the mass number is the same which is 40 but the atomic number is different which is 19 for potassium, 20 for calcium. So these are termed isobars.
