When there is a loss of hydrogen it is known as Oxidation.

  • Tarnishing of silver is an example of oxidation
  • The following reaction shows the loss of hydrogen

H2S(g)hydrogensulphide+Cl2chlorineg2HClhydrochloricacidg+Ssulphurs

The above equation shows there is a loss of hydrogen from hydrogen sulphide when hydrogen sulphide and chlorine reacts to produce hydrochloric acid and sulphur.
