  • Solute: The component of a solution which is present in a lesser quantity or a substance that is dissolved.
  • Solvent: The component of a solution which is present in a larger amount or a substance in which solute is dissolved.

A solution of the gas in liquid means the solute is a gas and the solvent is a liquid.

Example: Soda water in which gas Carbon dioxide (CO2) is dissolved in Water (H2O)
