Solution
Means of detecting DNA:
The ability to detect DNA is required for recombinant DNA methods.
The absorption of ultraviolet light is one approach to determining the amount of RNA or DNA in a solution.
As the ring structures in the bases absorb UV light, the DNA also absorbs it.
Ultraviolet light is also absorbed by single-stranded RNA and free nucleotides. They absorb more light owing to their loose structures.
The amount of absorption is equated with a set of known parameters that allow for determining the DNA concentration.
