Question

Give one point difference between autotrophs, heterotrophs, and decomposers.

Solution

Autotrophs:

  • Autotrophs synthesize their food and do not depend upon other organisms or do not consume other organisms.

Heterotrophs:

  • Heterotrophs cannot synthesize their food and consume the autotrophs.

Decomposers:

  • Decomposers obtain the energy from the dead or decaying remains of both autotrophs and heterotrophs.

The difference between autotrophs, heterotrophs, and decomposers:

AutotrophsHeterotrophsDecomposers
1. Autotrophs synthesize their food and use raw inorganic materials like water.1. Heterotrophs consumer autotrophs or other consumers. They cannot synthesize their food.1. Decomposers feed on dead or decaying organic matter and do not synthesize their food.
2. Autotrophs are producers in an ecosystem.2. Heterotrophs are consumers in an ecosystem.2. Decomposers are decomposers like fungi and bacteria.
3. Examples: Green algae, trees, shrubs, herbs.3. Examples: human, goat, tiger, sheep, buffalo, etc.3. Examples: bacteria, fungi, other microorganisms, etc.
