Nylon is made by the polymerization of adipic acid (1, 6-hexanedioic acid) and hexamethylene diamine (1, 6-diamino hexane).
nHOOC(CH2)4COOH+nH2N(CH2)6NH2[OC(CH2)4CONH(CH2)6NH]n+(2n1)H2O
It is obtained by condensation polymerization.
Nylon is used in making the bristles of brushes, carpets, and fabrics.
